To fight the pain there are different types of medicines with analgesics, anti-inflammatories, opioids and opiate derivatives, antiepileptics, antidepressants, muscle relaxants, etc. 

NSAIDS

Analgesics, anti-inflammatories, antidepressants:

  • Duloxetine (Cymbalta)
  • Amitriptyline Gabapentin (Elavil)
  • (Neurontin)
  • Pregabalin (Lyrica)
  • Topiramate (Topamax)
  • Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
  • Celecoxib (Celebrex)
  • Ibuprofen (like Motrin or Advil)
  • Naproxen (like Aleve)”COX-2 inhibitor” designed to prevent an upset stomach

Opioids

  • Codeine
  • Morphine
  • Oxycodone

In addition to medications, the following can be used:

  • Transdermal fentanyl creams and patches
  • Muscle relaxants
  • Sedatives and sleeping pills
